Case Study

Touch Ups Body Shop

  • Industry: Bodyshop
  • Product: Authorised Funding
  • Owner: William and Rachel Findlay

From humble beginnings in a unit small enough for just one car, Touch Ups Body Shop, Glasgow, has grown into a thriving, family-run body shop operating from two substantial sites, with a team of 54 and manufacturer approvals from Tesla, Volkswagen Audi Group and BYD.

Founded by William Findlay over 22 years ago, the business has built its reputation on quality, attention to detail and a commitment to its customers. As the business grew rapidly, so did the need for reliable partners who could keep pace with its ambitions.

In this case study, we hear from Rachel Findlay, Business Owner, how Touch Ups Body Shop’s relationship with ACG has helped simplify their day-to-day operations, improve cash flow and deliver significant cost savings, while providing the personal service and reliability they need to continue growing.

Can you tell me about Touch Up Glasgow’s Body Shop and how did it all start?

The business started by my husband William Findlay 22 years ago. We started off in a small unit that you could only fit one car in, then moved to a bigger unit which could fit six in. William used to work all the hours going, he never advertised and grew the customer base through word of mouth.

He had a high reputation for attention to detail and his quality of work; this is when the insurance work first started. Then we took on a large premises of 10,000 square foot and this is when the business really started to grow. We achieved our BSI standard kite mark and started getting work provision.

After this we opened our second site of 35,000 square foot. In the short space of three years, we grew from eight members of staff to 54. We are very proud to now have manufacturer approval of Tesla, Volkswagen Audi Group and BYD.

What are the key priorities or challenges within your business?

Partnerships that link into the business and our ambitions with continuing to grow. Unfortunately, our previous funding provider was unable to keep up. As a fast-growing family body shop, we needed to ensure cash flow was our priority.

What prompted you to look for a new funding provider and what were you looking for that you were getting from your previous funding provider?

Unfortunately, the level of service changed. Errors were happening, we weren’t getting responses to queries and communication was poor. So, we looked for a highly reputable company. We liked how a lot of communication is face-to-face with ACG and felt valued as a customer, and it became clear about cost savings to us through using their funding services.

What has been different about working with ACG compared with your previous provider?

Definitely the level of service, the personal approach and communication and feeling valued as a business.

How would you describe ACG’s team service in your day-to-day relationship?

They have a fast response time to any day-to-day queries. If anyone’s unsure, they’ll go and find an answer and get back to us as soon as they can and there’s always a direct contact.

To what extent does ACG feel like a business partner versus just a standard supplier?

We deal with ACG day-to-day. Cash flow is critical for our business, and we feel we’ve built a strong relationship, and it just feels like another member of our team.

What specific improvements or outcomes have you seen since moving to ACG?

Cash flow has massively improved, less admin, less time chasing, also the huge benefit of the money savings.

What gives you confidence in ACG as a long-term partner as your body shop continues to grow?

We’ve never had any errors. We still feel as valued now as we did on day one. We’re confident in the staff and the processes from ACG and we know they’ll be able to handle whatever’s thrown their way.

Would you recommend ACG to other body shops considering a change of provider and what would you say sets ACG apart?

Yeah, definitely. It saves the business significant admin time; has great cost savings and a company you can rely on from day one.

To conclude…

For TouchUps Body Shop, choosing the right funding partner has been about more than simply finding a supplier. It has been about finding a business that understands the demands of a fast-growing body shop and can provide the service, communication and reliability needed to keep things moving.

Since moving to ACG, TouchUps Body Shop has seen significant improvements in cash flow, reduced administration and meaningful cost savings, while building a strong relationship with a team they can rely on.

As the business continues to grow, that partnership provides confidence that ACG will be there to support Touch Up Glasgow every step of the way.
